The Goodie Award
Congratulations to this weeks Good Neighbor!
Mr. Mike Kubasek (aka Mr. K) a teacher at Summerville Elementary is this week’s GOODIE! Here’s the nomination letter:
We would like to nominate Mr. Mike Kubasek, a 4th grade teacher at Summerville Elementary School. He is as “good” as a teacher gets. Mr. K, as his students call him does an excellent job of motivating his students academically in the classroom by getting to know the kids on a personal level. He learns about the children in his class and figures out what makes them tick. He goes above and beyond the call of an average teacher. His students are not only learning the state standards required in the fourth grade, but he also teaches about character and citizenship. His 4th grade class visits a retirement home monthly where the children learn an important life lesson about serving the elderly in our community. When the school budget crisis started a few years ago, field trips were one of the first things to be cut. Mr. K got his bus drivers license and has fundraisers so that these trips will still be possible. His students not only receive lessons that make them smarter children, but also lessons that make them more caring people.
Our son is a shy and reserved kid. He has been blessed with lots of wonderful teachers through the years. But we have watched him truly blossom under the guidance of Mr. K. He is eager to do his homework and wants to do his best because he wants Mr. K to be proud. He has enjoyed teasing his teacher about baseball and football. He was so excited the day his teacher took the time on a Saturday to attend a football game where our son and some of his classmates were playing. He talked for hours (something our son never does) about the first field trip to the retirement home and the people he enjoyed meeting there. He can’t wait to go again and see his new friends next month. So many good things, and it is only October! We can’t wait to see what Mr. K has up his sleeve next. Mr. K has been teaching for many years in Tuolumne County. We are certain he has made a difference in the lives of a countless number of kids. We feel so blessed to have our son in Mr. K’s class. Thank you Mr. K we think you’re a “GOODIE”!
Most sincerely,
Mike and Amber Brennan
