I would like to nominate my husband, Josiah Dewey, for the Hard Working Man contest.
My husband first serves our community as a wildland firefighter. He works out of Cherry Lake and Groveland, worked beyond exhaustion during the Rim Fire, and continues to work now falling trees, cleaning debri, and making the area safe for the public. During this fire season, he is often away fighting fires, working both day and night shifts, putting his own life at danger at times, and making sure that people and property all over California are safe. His hours are long, and his pay far below that of what he truly deserves.
Josiah also serves a small part of this community by playing electric guitar at the Journey Church in Sonora. He attends worship practice on Thursday nights, and also diligently practices music throughout the week, to assure the best possible worship and musical experience for the people there on Sunday.
Despite his long hours and workload, he also takes the time to make sure I am prioritized and well taken care of. I teach at Summerville High School and find myself working from before sun-up to after sun-down. He does little things like prepare meals for me when I cannot find the time, make sure the house stays clean, fixes my car, surprises me with blessings when I am stressed, and takes time out of his own busy schedule to write me personal notes of encouraging words, just to make sure the stress of my day is eased just a little.
Amidst his crazy schedule, I have never heard Josiah whine or complain. He shows true passion for life, for God, and for the people around him.
