The Saddest Picture In The World

The dog of slain Petty Officer Jon Tumilson refused to leave his side during the Navy SEAL’s funeral earlier this week in Rockford, Iowa. The heartbreaking photo taken by his cousin, Lisa Pembleton, shows Tumilson’s dog Hawkeye lying by the casket.

Navy SEAL U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jon T. Tumilson was among the 30 American troops killed August 6 when Taliban insurgents downed their Chinook helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade. At his funeral in Iowa, his dog Hawkeye paid his last respects, walking up to the casket, lying down in front of it, and heaving a sigh.

[Canine Comrades: Read about a loyal dog who wouldn't leave his injured friend behind]

Pembleton wrote on Facebook that Hawkeye was Tumilson’s loyal pet who wouldn’t leave his master’s side during the funeral in Rockford, Iowa.

“I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members that couldn’t make it or couldn’t see what I could from the aisle,” Pembleton wrote.

Tumilson’s family and/or friends also posted this looping, time lapsed video of Hawkeye at the service…commencing application of kleenex tissues now……

Thanks to our friend Maria Goodavage at Dogster for sharing this with us.

KKBN Goodie Award Winner (08/24/11)

A Big KKBN Congrats to this week’s Goodie:

Terry Storey

I would like to nominate my sister Terry Storey for the Goodie Award.  She has spent her entire life taking care of everyone else.  For the past 5 years she has been taking care of our elderly mother who has had multiple medical issues as well as my other sister who has Downs Syndrome. She has numerous elderly friends and is always checking in one them to make sure that they are alright and to see if they need anything.  She volunteers at the local Food Bank.

She always puts everyone’s needs above her own.  She would give you the shirt off her back if you asked.

I am amazed at what she does and would like to acknowledge her spirit and kindness.

Thank you Terry for everything you do and who you are!

KKBN Pet Of The Week (08/23/11)

Congratulation to this little pup!  Our KKBN Pet of The Week!  Let’s find out more…

Meet “Summer”, she is a 4 month old Doberman Pinscher.  She is such a happy and sweet girl.  Her favorite activities are to run and chew.  I brought her home 2 weeks ago and decided to find a radio station to keep her company during my absence.   I wanted one that had soothing songs with talking unlike my usual classical music.  I found “the cabin” and started listening to the songs and little did I know I would be hooked.
When my husband came home from work  he couldn’t believe his ears.  So not only did I get the puppy of my dreams, I found out I love country music.
