It’s Monday, You Should Stay Home

Good Morning Mother Lode!

Are you having one of those days where you feel fine? You know, physically and mentally, everything is in good shape, but for whatever reason, you don’t feel like going to work?

You’re in luck, because it is Stay at Home Because You’re Well Day, which is surprisingly self-explanatory. It’s a day that will be particularly appreciated by people who played hookie in their younger days (that is, they felt fine, but skipped school anyway). Ah, the memories.

Now, I am not advocating skipping work. No, this is a day about being honest. Call your place of work and say “I need the day off, because I’m feeling really well.” Your employers will be so appreciative of your blatant honesty that they will fully support your glorified mental health day.If you do decide to go to work  today, well let’s get busy!   Join us this morning at 5:30 as we get your day going with traffic and weather with more fun and music!

Have a great Monday!

Let’s Say Thanks

soldier-and-flag

Let’s Say Thanks to our service men and women this holiday.  Let them know what they’re doing makes a huge difference in all of our lives and that we appreciate them greatly.

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

If you go to this web site
www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will
print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in
Iraq.
You can’t pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed
services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!
It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?
Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to
know
we are behind them.

Toyota RECALL

I’m adding this story because I have friends and family that own and drive Toyota’s and I want all of you safe this holiday season.  Big Recall Info below

TOYOTA TO RECONFIGURE GAS PEDALS _ Gas pedals will be reconfigured or replaced on 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus models recalled in late September because of runaway acceleration. The company initially blamed the problem on faulty floor mats. Dealers will begin the work in January “to address the risk of floor mat entrapment.”

… The recall affects the 2007-2010 Toyota Camry, the 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, the 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, the 2005-2010 Tacoma, the 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, the 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and the 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350.

… The initial, voluntary recall was prompted by the deaths of an off- duty California Highway Patrol officer, his wife, their daughter and his brother-in-law. Their 2009 Lexus ES 350 sped out of control, crashed through an embankment and burned.

It’s Black Friday

black-friday-lines

Good Morning Mother Lode!

Last night Jay Leno said “55% of Americans will start their holiday shopping today…the other 45%… are men!    This is also one of the most stressful days ever for Americans!  Some of you are already awake and on your way to Walmart.   Let me ask you a question,  What is wrong with you?  Don’t you know this is the age of technology, so you never have to leave your house for the same sales these stores are promoting?  Go online, stay in your pajamas, drink your own coffee!  I’ve already finished my holiday shopping and never once put on pants, stressed over finding a parking spot, fought a crowd and had to deal with customer service reps that would rather be anywhere but dealing with a thousand stressed out people!  So for those of you dreading hitting the stores this morning, just stop right there, and take those shoes off and click this link!

Happy Holidays!

STARS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE THANKSGIVING MEMORIES

• RODNEY ATKINS: Besides turkey and dressing, one tradition the family follows is his grandmother’s recipe for chicken and dumplings. Rodney also makes time to go hunting, although he doesn’t usually have much luck.

• MARK WILLS: Thanksgiving will be spent with his family and the next day will be spent with wife Kelly’s family.

• DARIUS RUCKER: Typically the holiday is spent with his family or his wife’s, with football being a big part of the day.

• RANDY HOUSER: He always winds up cooking chicken on the grill. His mom will do a turkey, but there really isn’t a big event. He describes it as a time to lay around, eat and get fatter.

• JASON MICHAEL CARROLL: The meal rotates among family members, but there’s always a video game challenge.

• EMERSON DRIVE’s Brad Mates: Eats as much turkey as possible and hides some of his mom’s mashed potatoes in the back of the fridge for leftovers.

• ZAC BROWN: Has one Thanksgiving with his family that is traditional food and a second with his friends that is usually something unusual like steaks on the grill

• JENNIFER NETTLES: Her Thanksgiving tradition is going to see a movie of some kind

WHAT THE STARS ARE MOST GRATEFUL FOR

• ALAN JACKSON: His wife, Denise, their 30-year marriage, learning from mistakes, their pets, their daughters and their faith

Goodie Of The Week Wednesday

One Good Deed

Good Morning Mother Lode!

Time to announce this week’s Goodie Of The Week Award Winner!  Congratulations to Don Crouch, nominated for his good deeds!(Read the letter below).  He wins a gift certificate from J.S. West Ace Hardware in Sonora!

Hello Big Joe and Bridgette, I am writing this to bring to your attention a fine gentleman who has lived and given to our local community the last 20 plus years, Don Crouch. I personally have only known Don for the past three years. In that time I have come to see how much Don gives to Calaveras County and its Citizens. Don made his living in the Bay Area as an electrician after leaving the Military. After retiring Don made his home in the Dorrington area. Don has helped run the  “Food Closet” at the Church of the Pines in Arnold for the past 13 years, giving his time and effort unselfishly every Tuesday to help those less fortunate. Don has been involved with the church not only as an Elder but as a mentor and caring shoulder for those who needed comforting. He is an active member of the S.I.R.S. in the Arnold area, attending monthly meetings. Don is a past member of the Volunteer Search and Rescue Team in Calaveras County having been called out at all times of the night! the  search for those that had become lost in the forest. I have had the opportunity to work with Don the last 3 years as a member of the Sheriff’s Volunteer Unit. Don at this time holds the highest rank in the Unit as our Volunteer Lieutenant. Don has been with the Unit since May 2001. Since joining he has given over 5900 volunteer hours to the Citizens of Calaveras County. Don as a member of the Unit provides security at parades, security at the Fair, conducts vacation house checks and guides members of the Unit through leadership. As part of the Unit he also provides traffic control, patrol checks, and has operated the Arnold sub station. Don is an excellent example of a person and friend who only asks, “what else may I do to help”? I am sure many of your listeners know Don and would agree with my nomination for your “Goodie of the Week” award.

Thank you for your consideration, Jim Aguilera

Black Friday Guide

blackfriday

With the economy still struggling to recover and unemployment rates at their highest level in decades, overall holiday sales are expected to be down but that won’t stop that throng of dedicated deal finders from loading up their carts. If you’re one of those people, here’s what you can expect to find at some of the country’s largest retailers.

Target

Opening: 5:00AM

Deals: Target has been getting some press for offering a Westinghouse 32-inch LCD TV for $246 as well as select toasters and coffeemakers for $3. Additional deals on electronics such as HDTVs, DVD players, GPS units and cameras can net savings of up to 50%.

Extras: The store is offering a $10 gift card when you spend $100 or more from 5AM to noon on Friday.

Best Buy

Opening: 5:00AM

Deals: Many TVs will be 30% off. GPS units are 50% off. You can get up to 50% off major appliances and both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are priced at $299.99.

Extras: How about your own safety? Learning from the recent disasters at stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy will be handing out tickets for doorbuster deals guaranteeing the holder of that ticket the product ahead of time so there is no stampeding through the front door.

Kohl’s

Opening: 4:00AM

Deals: Up to 50-60% off jewelry, clothing and appliances and up to 70% off on housewares. Discounts of 50% can be had on some of their specially priced electronics.

Extras: “Early Bird” specials will run from 4AM to 1PM providing extra incentives on already discounted merchandise. Additionally, Kohl’s will offer $10 in “Kohl’s Cash” for every $50 spent.

Wal-Mart

Opening: 6:00AM on Thursday – In an effort to manage the crowds, many Wal-Mart retailers will open early on Thanksgiving and remain open 24 hours leading up to the deals starting at 5AM on Friday. Instead of waiting in the parking lot, shoppers will be able to enter the store and line up at in-store displays for the items they want.

Deals: Wal-Mart has been pretty tight lipped thus far about their Black Friday plans but it appears they’ll be offering deals on several smart phones with a two-year agreement including the AT&T Curve 8310 for free and the Bold 9000 for $78.88. HP notebooks for $298 also look to be on the list.

Extras: Like Best Buy, Wal-Mart has taken steps to manage the potential madness by opening Thursday instead of Friday. Given the negative publicity that came with a worker death last year, this should be a welcome change.

Home Depot

Opening: 6:00AM

Deals: Select power drills, nail guns and tool sets will be on sale for 50% off or more. Appliances like refrigerator/freezers and washer/dryer combos will be available for 30-50% off. Christmas trees and all the accessories will be on hand at deep discounts as well.

Extras: Don’t want to fight the crowds at the store? Try shopping Home Depot online and get free shipping on most orders over $49.

Toys ‘R Us

Opening: 12:00AM

Deals: You name it and it’ll probably be on sale. Bikes, video games and accessories, and electronics are all being marked down. You’ll find 50% off Razor scooters in addition to 50% or more off of selected VTECH, Little Tikes, Leapfrog, and Playskool merchandise.

Extras: You can get a $10 gift card with any purchase over $75. Plus, check out their “Biggest Big Book” for loads of deals that you can get before Black Friday.

Amazon.com

Opened: Monday, November 23rd – Amazon is replacing the Black Friday day with Black Friday WEEK. Starting Monday, you’ll find discounts on items like TVs, DVDs, Blu-Ray players and computers with deals continuing to be added throughout the week.

Deals: Amazon has been relatively silent about this year’s offerings but expect markdowns on everything from electronics to clothes to their trademark book selection. In fact, Amazon has already engaged Wal-Mart and Target in a price war by offering several new release titles for just $9.

Extras: Keep an eye out for the Gold Box where you’ll find discounts of up to 75% on specially marked items.

Sears

Opening: 4:00AM

Deals: In addition to digital cameras and GPS units, hot doorbuster deals this year consist of several specials on HDTVs including a Samsung 22-inch LCD TV for $249.99 and a Panasonic 42-inch plasma TV for $649.99.

Extras: Go online and enter the promo code “SEARS5OFF50? to receive an additional $5 off a $50 purchase.
